Walkabout Resources to commission Tanzanian Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine

Mar. 21, 2024 - Walkabout Resources Ltd is pleased to announce that the necessary approval has been obtained to use and operate the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) at the Company’s Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine in Tanzania.

The 28.3 hectare TSF has been designed and constructed to the highest international standards for the safe and environmentally sound deposition of graphite tailings and has been one of the most significant capital works undertaken in the construction of the Lindi Jumbo mine. There will need to be further lifts of the TSF throughout the mine life.

The construction of the TSF has been monitored throughout by independent engineers to ensure it met the design standards. After submitting the Detailed Construction Report for the TSF, the Company has now received the operating permit from the Ministry of Water in Dodoma. This is the final government approval required for the start-up of the mine. The permit requires some minor updates to operating documentation and some further monitoring equipment to be installed.

The Tailings Management Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance Manual (TSF OMS) will be updated and re-submitted to the Department of Water once all the monitoring instruments have been installed as per the Company’s recommended design and operating parameters.

The TSF is designed to capture and recirculate water in excess of that required for the environmentally sound storage of tailings. This recirculation reduces the need for new water to be added to the plant process.
