SGL Carbon India Sets up Production Unit near Pune

Mar. 5, 2012 - SGL Carbon India, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of carbon-based products for industrial and electronic applications, has launched its new production plant in at Ranjangao industrial area, near Pune.
"We are in India for a long haul as it is a significant rapidly growing market for us,” Gerd Wingefeld, member of the board of management of SGL Group, said. He declined to disclose investments in the new facility.
"We will grow just like we have grown in China, which contributed 10-20 per cent of the total revenues of the entire group,” Wingefed said. At present, Asia contributes 26 per cent of the total sales revenues at ¤1.4 billion and China and Malaysia are the leading markets.
"The new production facility will manufacture graphite-based system components (heat exchangers and columns) for the chemical industry,” Wingefeld said. He said the products made from specialty graphite from graphite materials and systems are used primarily in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries and increasingly in glass manufacturing as well as the pump and solar industries.
"The chemical industry in India is one of the largest growth markets in the global chemical business. With a total sales volume of presently ¤76 billion, it ranks among the top 10 leading chemical nations,” he said.
"While each small product will carry a price tag of Rs 8-10 lakh and bigger ones Rs 10-30 crore,” Neumaier said, adding the new plant launched on Friday will provide a basis for future growth in the Indian market.
