Siemens to Supply Four Continuous Casting Lines for Taiwanese Steelmaker

Nov. 26, 2012 - Austria-based plantmaker Siemens Metals Technologies has announced that it has received an order from the Taiwanese steelmaking company Formosa Heavy Industries Co. to supply four continuous casting lines as part of the construction of a new steelmaking plant in Vung Ang, Vietnam.
The new steelmaking plant will be able to produce approximately five million mt of steel per year in the first phase, to be subsequently expanded to 10 million mt, and increasing to 22 million mt in the final stage.
The order includes two slab casters, one billet caster and one bloom caster with a total installed capacity of roughly 8.4 million mt per year. The slab casters are designed for an annual capacity of 2.7 million mt each. The casters are scheduled to go into operation in mid-2015.
According to Siemens, the slab casters will produce slabs of 210 to 270 mm in thicknesses and ranging between 900 and 1,880 mm in widths. The billet caster has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million mt of billets ranging between 130 x 130 mm and 180 x 180 mm and lengths of up to 12 m, while the bloom caster has an installed annual production capacity of 1.5 million mt of blooms with dimensions of 260 x 300 mm and 360 x 450 mm.
