May 11, 2016 - PAYMENT for the first shipment of bauxite from the Bald Hill mine near Campbell Town has been received by Australian Bauxite Ltd, chief executive Ian Levy has confirmed.
Mr Levy said he was unable to reveal the name of the buyer, but said the resource had gone to a cement manufacturer.
A deal to sell the 5557 tonnes of bauxite to an Indian based company fell through in December, which led to the mine being placed into care and maintenance in January this year.
Mr Levy said there were two more shipments that would need to be sold before the company would consider reopening the mine.
“If we get a third shipment ordered we’ll reopen pretty much straight away,” Mr Levy said.
