Severstal ramps up output with new ladle furnace

Severstal's converter steel output will increase by 200,000 tons annually to 10 million tons annually as a result of the new furnace's launch. The project, in which Severstal has invested 3 billion roubles ($50 million), has been under way since the first quarter of 2016. About 40 percent of the investment was spent on the gas-cleaning unit.

The equipment was supplied by German firm Primetals Technologies, while construction was carried out by Koksokhimmontage-2, which is based in Cherepovets, home to Severstal's main steel mill.

Severstal crude steel production reached 11.6 million tons last year, up by 2 percent on 2015. It produced 5,7 million tons in the first half of this year, down by 0.5 percen from January-June 2016.
