Jan. 31, 2018 - India’s state-run aluminium smelter National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) announced in a report last week that it turned out a record production of 6.825 million metric tons of bauxite in the 2016-2017 fiscal year, up from the prior year’s haul by 7.65 percent.
According to the report, the record high was achieved thanks to peak capacity utilization.
“Bauxite mines have achieved highest ever production with bauxite transportation of 68.25 lakh tonne achieving 100 per cent capacity utilisation and has surpassed previous best of 63.40 lakh tonne achieved in 2015-16, registering a growth of 7.65 per cent.”
The report went on to state that the firm’s aluminium output totaled 387 thousand metric tons, an increase of 4 percent over the prior year’s total of 372 thousand metric tons.
In addition, Nalco’s alumina refining set records as well, pumping out 2.1 million metric tons of alumina hydrate. This was a 7.53-percent increase over the previous fiscal year’s output of 1.953 million metric tons.
