Shell India to invest $690 mln in Hazira port
The Indian unit of Royal Dutch/Shell will spend Rs. 30 billion ($690 million) on building a container terminal and facilities to handle bulk cargo at the Hazira port, a senior company official said.
The company also started commercial operations at its terminal to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) last week, Marc den Hartog, director, Shell India Pvt. Ltd., told reporters on Tuesday.
The $685 million port and LNG plant at Hazira in western India has been designed to import 5 million tonnes a year of liquefied gas but will initially operate at half the capacity.
He said Shell was in talks with Essar Steel to build the bulk cargo handling facility but the capacity and construction schedule had not been finalised.
