Montreal-based aluminium producer Alcan Inc. on Wednesday said it plans to spend $35 million on a new aluminium extrusion plant in Slovakia to build product primarily for Eastern Europe's construction industry.
The company's aluminium extrusion products include doors, windows and automotive parts. Demand for soft alloy extruded products is growing in the region, Alcan said.
Pending approval by local regulatory authorities, production is expected to start in early 2007. The new plant will employ about 200 people and be part of Alcan's engineered products business.
