At present, there are many kinds of production processes of chromium oxide green, but methods commonly used in industry include: chromium hydroxide method, ammonium sulfate-red barium sodium thermal decomposition method and chromic anhydride direct thermal decomposition method.

At present, the basic method for producing chromium oxide in the United States, Britain, Germany and other countries is the ammonium sulfate-red oxime sodium thermal decomposition method. The chromium salt manufacturers using this technology have the largest output of chromium oxide, the best quality, and the most varieties. Its advantages are that the production process is simpler than the liquid phase reduction method, the cost is lower than the chromic anhydride decomposition method, and the adaptability is wide (the pigments, abrasives, refractories, and metallurgical grade chromium oxides are available), and is suitable for large-scale production of rotary kiln, and In the production process, no harmful gas or the like is generated, thereby replacing the early red haze sodium-ammonium chloride thermal decomposition method (ammonium chloride volatilization loss). Most of the commercial chromium oxide is obtained directly or indirectly from sodium erythrosin, and its production accounts for approximately 20% of the sodium consumption of red peony.
