Allied Mineral Products breaks ground on $11 million expansion in Pell City

2018-06-23

Jun. 20, 2018 - Allied Mineral Products broke ground Wednesday on an $11 million expansion in Pell City.

“This expansion is part of our strategic growth,” said Allied Mineral Products President Paul Jamison. “This increases our manufacturing presence in Alabama.”

Allied Mineral Products purchased Riverside Refractories in Pell City in late September 2017, and is retaining 30 jobs from its facility in Anniston with this expansion.

“This is another phase in the Allied Mineral Products story, and it’s a big one,” said William Carmean, corporate vice president of affiliated operation. “We appreciate everyone coming out here today.”

Allied Mineral Products, Inc., which is based in Columbus, is a leading global manufacturer of monolithic refractories and precast, pre-fired refractory shapes with 12 manufacturing facilities in eight countries, three precast shapes facilities and two research and technology centers.

Jamison said Allied likes to locate close to its customer base.

“That’s why we are here today,” he said.

Jamison said the Pell City plant should be in full production by the end of 2019.

Mayor Bill Pruitt attended the groundbreaking, which was held at the former stockyard, where loggers use to bring their logs, off Truss Ferry Road.

“Over the last year and a half, I have had the opportunity to do this (groundbreakings) several times,” he said.

Pruitt said there is always a common thread.

“You had other places you could go, but you chose Pell City,” he said. “We have great community partners, and I’m glad to add you to this list … We look forward to growing together.”

Goodgame Company is in charge of the massive construction project.

Jason Goodgame said the production facility and warehouse that is on the drawing table is 169,625 square feet, with 10,000 square feet of designated office space.

“They will be closing a facility in Anniston and relocating the workers to the Pell City plant,” Goodgame said.

He said workers began the site work on the Allied Mineral Products’ property last week.

“It’s a 10- to 12-month project,” Goodgame said.

Don Smith, the executive director for the St. Clair County Economic Development Council, said Allied Mineral Products, an employee-owned company, is a leader in its field.

“Their team has been incredible to work with during this process as they have consolidated some of their operations into a larger, more efficient location here in Pell City,” he said. “We’re proud to have them as the newest part of our manufacturing family.”
