Jan. 12, 2026 - Australia-based Canyon Resources has announced progress across mining, logistics and infrastructure workstreams at the Minim Martap Bauxite Project in Cameroon, ahead of scheduled commissioning in February 2026.
The surface miner for the project was delivered to the Port of Douala in December 2025 while road upgrade works are commencing, with completion expected by the end of Q1 2026. The company expects the delivery of locomotives and wagons to support mineral logistics in Q1 2026, with first bauxite shipment targeted for late June 2026.
“Project readiness continues to be strengthened, with key senior leadership appointments now completed. The Mine Director and Port Manager roles have been filled, with both executives scheduled to be on the ground this month to support the ramp-up to first production,” stated Peter Secker, CEO, Canyon Resources.
Canyon Resources expects to increase its ownership stake in the rail line connecting the mine to export ports from 9% to approximately 35% by the end of Q1 2026. The company is also set to award a tender for transhipment services in Q1 2026 and is finalizing funding arrangements to secure the remaining capital – including A$100 million from Eagle Eye Asset Holdings and A$70 million from Afriland – required for the project.
Meanwhile, the feasibility study for a proposed value-adding alumina refinery is approximately 45% complete, with construction targeted to commence in Q3 2026.
