Imerys: A step closer to its net zero goals by build clean electricity

May 17, 2022 - A new partnership to produce a 4.7 megawatt solar project in Bahrain will take it a step closer to its ambitious net zero carbon goals. Imerys Al Zayani Bahrain, Yellow Door Energy, and Midal Solar are involved in a new production plant that will produce clean electricity and reduce emissions.

The forecasted solar production of 7.6 gigawatt-hours for the first year will meet 15-20 percent of the factory’s energy consumption needs. This is equivalent to reducing carbon emissions by 4,800 tonnes and will contribute to Bahrain’s Net Zero by 2060 Initiative.

Imerys, a world leader in mineral-based specialty solutions for industry, partnered with Yellow Door Energy, a sustainable provider for businesses in the Middle East and Pakistan, to install over 8,500 solar panels at its white fused alumina production plant in Bahrain. Midal Solar is the appointed solar contractor.

Covering an area of 25,000 square metres, the solar plant will bring significant cost savings and reduce carbon emissions, particularly the carbon footprint of the white fused alumina produced in Bahrain.

Construction will start in the second half of 2022, and the solar plant is expected to be operational by 2023.
