HarbisonWalker International will be hiring 50 people for its new Fairfield plant in 2022

Jun. 3, 2022 - HarbisonWalker International is working on getting its Alabama One plant ready to open, which means hiring over 50 trained technicians and staff to join their team. Keep reading to hear from the new plant manager about what working at HarbisonWalker looks like.

The opening of HWI’s new plant is exciting news for the Birmingham area and the state of Alabama. The new plant brings jobs and maximizes opportunity for so many industries that rely on refractories.

They are currently seeking several jobs that have transferable skills, such as welders, electricians and mechanics. 

Michael Carter, a veteran manufacturing leader, is the new AL1 plant manager. He is heading the plant’s employment efforts to help build a capable and enthusiastic team that’s eager to deliver for customers. Michael fits right into the culture of HarbisonWalker.

“I care about getting face time with the people I work with. I want to provide the individuals that work for us with not only the necessities, but also be able to get to know them. I want to know how they are feeling and what they need to succeed. I think that’s something that goes a long way when it comes to fostering relationships,.” said Michael Carter, Plant Manager, HarbisonWalker International.

Opening a plant in a location like Fairfield is a huge asset when it comes to recruiting. In an automotive driven state like Alabama, the talent HWI wants to hire is here. Michael is looking forward to being a part of that process from the ground up.

“The most rewarding part of this all for me is that I’m here from the beginning. I get to actually talk to and meet every individual that is coming through the doors. I get to spend time with them and see what expectations they have from both me and the company. I get to set my expectations. I want them to know that we welcome them sharing their ideas and helping us become better", said Michael Carter, Plant Manager, HarbisonWalker International.
