Official launch of ‘POSCO Future M’, an eco-friendly future materials company

Mar. 20, 2023 - POSCO Chemical changed its name to 'POSCO FUTURE M' and is reborn as an eco-friendly future materials company.

POSCO Chemical confirmed the name change to POSCO Future M at the general shareholders' meeting held at the Pohang headquarters on the 20th, and then held a mission declaration ceremony with President Kim Joon-hyeong and other executives and staff members in attendance.

The new name, POSCO Future M, means that it will take a leading role (management) in creating an affluent future (Future) by leading changes (Movement) in the world through competitive materials (Materials).

While POSCO Group, which has supported the development of the national economy through its steel business, is pushing for a great transformation into an 'eco-friendly future materials representative company' with the launch of a holding company last year, POSCO Future M, as a core operating company, is leading a new future change for the POSCO Group.

POSCO Future M is a business company dedicated to the 'secondary battery material' business among the seven core businesses of the group. Following the steel business, POSCO Future M is leading the group's next-generation growth. As it was selected as a key business field that will lead the future of the country, POSCO Future M's role within the group is expected to be further strengthened.

“Over the past half century, our company has been leading the national economic development through various materials as a reliable partner of the steel industry,” said Joon-hyung Kim, president of POSCO Future M, in a commemorative speech at the name change declaration ceremony. “Let's start by renewing our name to achieve our vision of 'a global leading company in chemical and energy materials' and successfully build a new future as a 100-year-old company.”

Meanwhile, POSCO Future M also appointed inside and outside directors to lead the company through a general meeting of shareholders and board of directors on the same day. CEO Joon-hyung Kim was newly appointed as CEO, Director Deok-il Yoon of Planning & Support Headquarters was newly appointed as inside director, Jin-chul Kim, head of Safety and Environment Center as inside director, Won-yong Kim, Ung-beom Lee as outside directors, and Byeong-ok Yoo, head of Eco-friendly Future Materials Team at POSCO as outside directors.
