First Canadian Graphite appoints new CEO to advance Quebec graphite project

2026-02-24

Feb. 23, 2026 - First Canadian Graphite Inc. has appointed John LaGourgue as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors, effective immediately. The appointment comes as the junior mining company seeks to accelerate development of its flagship Berkwood Graphite Project in northern Quebec.

John LaGourgue, CEO of First Canadian Graphite Inc.LaGourgue brings over 25 years of experience in leadership, capital markets, commercial operations, and resource sector development to the role. His background includes securing more than $100 million in debt and equity funding for various projects and advancing mining exploration programs through multiple stages. ‘I am honoured to join the FCI team and look forward to driving an exciting new phase for the Company,’ LaGourgue stated. ‘I see tremendous potential to position First Canadian Graphite as a leader in the global graphite supply chain.’

The CEO emphasized the strategic advantages of the company’s Quebec-based assets, noting the region’s mining-friendly jurisdiction, excellent infrastructure, and access to clean hydroelectric power. The Berkwood Project hosts a historical NI 43-101 estimate of 3.2 million tonnes of indicated and inferred graphite at an average grade of 17%, featuring what LaGourgue described as ‘some of the highest-grade and highest-quality graphitic bodies in existence.’ The project is positioned adjacent to major world-class graphite developments, providing additional strategic advantages.

Tom Yingling, President of First Canadian Graphite Inc.Thomas Yingling, who will focus on his role as President, expressed enthusiasm for LaGourgue’s appointment. ‘John’s expertise, energy in expanding investor awareness, and clear vision for maximizing shareholder value through commercialization will be instrumental as we advance Berkwood,’ Yingling said. The company plans to execute a busy 2026 program of field operations and steps toward commercializing its resource, capitalizing on what it describes as ‘surging global demand for graphite.’

The appointment aligns with broader industry trends toward securing North American sources of critical minerals. Graphite is essential for electric vehicle batteries and other clean energy technologies, creating increased demand for reliable, onshore supply chains. First Canadian Graphite’s development comes as governments and industries seek to reduce dependence on foreign sources of critical minerals.

First Canadian Graphite respectfully acknowledges that the Berkwood Project is located within the traditional territory of the Pessamit Innu First Nation and has committed to fostering respectful, transparent relationships with local Indigenous communities throughout development. The company’s leadership transition occurs amid increasing focus on environmental, social, and governance considerations in resource development, particularly in jurisdictions with strong regulatory frameworks like Quebec.
